A Hard Look: The Dallas Mavericks

advertisement

David Lord provides "a hard look" at the Mavericks and analyzes what went wrong. Is the team completely flawed, or just in need of a few changes after the playoffs disaster?

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

After all of the analysis, I think the question comes down to this... Should the Mavs organization be content with being very good, being able to win a lot of games every year and being capable of winning it all if they get the right breaks... or should the organization only settle for championships and be willing to risk "good" for becoming "great" in the long run?

Your opinion regarding that question answers the question about what the Mavs need to do next. David Lord seems to believe in what they have and one could make a good argument for that perspective.

I think it may be a moot point since the Mavericks don't appear to have the tradeable assets to significantly change the team without trading away one or both of their two best players (Dirk and Howard). And I think it is unlikely that trading either player results in the team getting better.
